The Silver Lake Township Planning Commission and Ad Hoc Committee
held a work session on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Silver Lake
Township Building. Laurence Harvilchuck called the work session
to order at 7:30 pm.
Mr. Harvilchuck purchased the 2009 Edition of the PA Zoning Law and
Practice books. After reviewing the books, he put together a
power-point presentation that compared SALDO and Zoning to answer several
questions previously raised by the committee. The presentation included
references for anyone that cared to look up a particular section and
will be posted on the
township website. Mr. Harvilchuck hoped that
it will answer some of the questions that the committee has. The presentation
will be posted on the
website. In summary, subdivision enables
development, while zoning regulates the size of a parcel, the use of
a parcel, and how much a parcel is used. A subdivision ordinance may
not be used to enact zoning, as they are two different ordinance types.
Zoning must be enacted under a zoning ordinance and not in many different
ordinances because zoning is a different type of ordinance. The committee
homework assignment for the next meeting was to review the sections
in the proposed ordinance on enforcement. Mr. Harvilchuck adjourned
the work session at 8:45pm.
